Colin Price's experience of 'Guernsey' cattle.

Hi friends,
On a previous blog I shared an image of a close-up of a number of cattle that I named 'Just curious'.
A framed print of this image was seen by a local farmer's wife, Sue, during our local photography exhibition. Sue then decided to commission myself to produce a number of framed prints so that she could hang them on the wall in her farmhouse.
As previously arranged, I met Sue so that she could introduce me to the farm land and the 'Guernsey' herd. On approaching the cattle Sue pointed to a bull and mentioned that 'Victor' was her favorite of all of the herd. Sue asked "would you please include a close-up of Victor's face in your final images"
As we crossed the field and closer to Victor he started kicking the turf with his right foot and snorting loudly. Now either this was my lucky day where Victor was trying to kill ants whilst suffering from a blocked nose or I was in deep trouble?
Sue quickly led me to the surrounding fence and we safely climbed into the adjoining field.
She said "since Victor has been a part of the herd, this is the first time that he has shown any aggression, although Guernsey bull's are known to be the most aggressive of all bulls", now she tell's me.
The day came when I had gathered all of my images together, Victor's close-up was the one remaining.
I did not have a plan, so when I approached the field containing some thirty heifers plus Victor the bull I was quite nervous.I could see Victor on his own, grazing near the centre of the field.
I could see a large oak tree not far from Victor, so after leaving my camera bag at the gate ( just in case I needed to make a quick exit) i walked towards Victor making sure that the tree was between him and myself so that he could not see me.
As I rested my back against the tree, adjusting my camera settings and gathering my thoughts, I wondered, what if Victor does not want his picture taken, ( he was an ugly bull with one and a half horns) and really I did want him to look at me otherwise I will not be able to take his front profile.
The plan now was to show myself to Victor, take the image and if he decides to attack then just run around the trunk until he gets dizzy- no, I could not see this being successful either.
I waved at Victor he looked me in the eye, I took one image, I turned around, I ran like mad, I leaped over the gate looked back and Victor had not moved an inch.
How brave was I?
As well as victor I have included some other images of Sue's Guernseys.

                                                       "They can't possibly see us"

colin price, images from Ireland

Hi all,
First of all I would like to dedicate this blog to my 'cyber' friend, Lisa Dorenfest. Without her encouragement and support I would not have become involved with the world of blogging, ( web site will follow soon Lisa )
The last post that I received from Lisa was that she was on her way to New Zealand, South Island on board the sailing boat Amandla, 'living her dream'. I hope you like the supporting image Lisa.

Last march my best pal Joy and I visited Dublin for the Six Nations rugby football tournament, Wales versus Ireland. Whilst there, we decided to board the local train and head towards the east coast.
We disembarked  at a town named Bray. What a stunning location.
It was advertised as 'the gateway to the Garden of Ireland' and boasts the longest established seaside town in Ireland. Apparently the writer and author James Joyce spent his childhood in this town.
I turned to my best pal and proudly said that we have come across the most charming town in Ireland and on our return to Wales, would brag that we were probably one of the very few from our country to set foot on its land.
Shortly after I said this, we noticed a row of three coaches parked alongside a string of hotels which were facing the sea. As we approached the coaches a person with a Welsh accent shouted towards the coaches from the hotel entrance and all of a sudden it was as if the whole of Wales disembarked from the coaches singing the Welsh National anthem.
It seems we were not the first  Welsh people to have landed in Bray!
The image that supports this blog is in the next town to Bray called Greystones. My pal and I walked through Bray until we reached Greystones marina. From the quayside I noticed that a row of sailing boats blended in well with the light blue sky and there were a number of various  bright colours within them.
I called the image 'pole to pole'

colin price, one of my favourite images

Hi all,
Just arrived back to heavy snowfall throughout the west of Wales. Such a difference to the sunshine of the past month in the Cost Del Sol.
I cant wait to review all my saved images that I have taken in Malaga and the surrounding area.
In the meantime I will produce one of my original images.
While on a local photography walk around our village, we decided to make our way to the top of a hill to catch the setting sun in hope of producing that perfect sunset.
To get to the vantage point it meant walking through a field, following a signed footpath.
As we approached the top of the hill, while the other members of the club set their cameras to catch the setting sun, I noticed that following behind us were a group of young cows.
I decided not to proceed with the sunset but to concentrate on the cattle.
I placed the camera near to the ground and just clicked away. To my surprise the cattle looked down at the camera listening to the shutter noise wondering what it was?
On arriving back at the photography club hall we all imported our images onto the projector and the rest of the club were amazed with the images that I took of the cattle expecting to see sunsets.
Not all of my images were successful, some were of only grass, some with mostly sky, but there was one that came out as I wished.
This image has been one of my most popular, in fact a local lady farmer has commissioned me to take images of her 'Guernsey herd' of seventy which I am in the progress of taking.
.
I called the image, 'just curious'

colin price, street photography

Hi to all.
With just three days left of my twenty eight holiday's in Spain I have decided to show you a street life image that I had taken in my home seaside town of Aberystwyth in Wales before leaving for Spain..
As with most street photographers, you very often see a prime location for an image but there is something that if included would improve, sometimes greatly an image. That is why patience is such a great ally to a street photographer.
In the following image, I for some time noticed an ideal location but was well aware that something red at the far end of the crossing would match the red letterbox at front left.
After a long wait a person wearing a red jacket eventually appeared. I already planned the camera setting and of the place where I wanted the subject to be in the image.
Although I had the time beforehand for this planning, because of the digital time lapse of pressing the shutter button and the image being taken, it is still difficult to produce the wanted picture.
More images to follow in my next blog and thanks to all who follow me, I am very grateful to you all.
Please do not hesitate to comment on my blog, and I will explain all my image planning and tips on all of my pictures.

colin price, street photography in Malaga

Hi to all,
Well today I was planning to give you more examples of my city street life images, but guess what, life isn't like that!
My 'best pal' (the missus) and I are staying in an appartment in between Benalmadena and Torremolinos
Now my best pal likes to spend her time either sunbathing at the poolside or on the apartment balcony and I don't blame her because the weather is really warm.
But I am not too fond of the heat and therefore you will find me within the apartment away from the sun's ray's.
But recently I have felt guilty because my best pal has been complaining that she is always alone among'st the other guests at the pool.
So yesterday afternoon I decided to join my best pal on the balcony.
After about one hour with my back against the sun, sitting on the apartment's  plastic chair, there was an almighty crash and I found myself on the floor with my legs in the air and my back between the remainder of the plastic chair and the balcony railings.
Everyone around the poolside looked up in the direction of our balcony and screamed, not knowing what to expect to see?.
Although I was not hurt from this experience ( only my pride ), I said to my best pal  that I was not supposed to be on the balcony, that I was only there because of my love for her.
Unfortunately, my 'best pal' did not agree with my conclusion!.
Please find attached the photograph of the said chair.
Normal services will be resumed on my next blog,
Hi all,
Seven days left of my holiday in Spain and have taken many photographs.
As mentioned in my previous blog, most of my images are taken of 'street life', and for anyone visiting the south of Spain and interested in street photography then Malaga is the city to visit.
Although I take a wide range of photographs including nature, landscape, seascape and macro to mention just a few, my main love is the art of the life in the street.
Unfortunately, the closest town to where I live in Wales is Aberystwyth, which makes gathering unusual images is very difficult.Living near a busy city would make my life a lot more easier.
Being near to (about 25minutes by bus) to Malaga is a dream location.
I have added an image that I have taken on this holiday to this blog and more will follow, thanks for your following. This image was taken in a park in Benalmadena.

my most popular images

Hi to the world,
This is my first ever blog and I am in my third week of my four week holiday in Spain.
The purpose of compiling a blog for myself is to show the world my favorite images from my beginning of love for photography to the present time.
At the moment my passion is the part of photography named 'street photography'.
More about this in my next blog.
I would very much like to post my first image.
Taken on a backstreet in Prague, it first started my love of street life.
It had been raining and the street was wet and so made the cobbled street very 'shiny' which added to the image.I needed to adjust my camera setting very swiftly before the subjects disappeared.
